The Reverend Sean E. Mullen, Rector

Before coming to Saint Mark's, Father Mullen was the Chaplain to the Most Reverend Dr. Peter Carnley, Archbishop of Perth in Western Australia (1998-2002). Prior to that he was Assistant Rector of All Saints Church in Richmond, Virginia (1996-1998).

Father Mullen is a graduate of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia (1989) and of the General Theological Seminary in New York (1996).

The Reverend Erika L. Takacs, Associate Rector

Before joining the staff of St. Mark’s, Mother Erika served at Christ Church, Old Town Alexandria, first as a clergy resident in the Foundations for Spiritual Leadership program and then as the Associate Rector for Faith Formation and Evangelism.

Mother Erika is a 2007 graduate of the Virginia Theological Seminary. Before attending seminary, Erika was a high school and middle school chorus teacher in New Hope, Pennsylvania. She has also enjoyed a career as a singer and was a member of the St. Mark’s Choir from 2000–2004.  She holds degrees from West Chester University of Pennsylvania (1995) and Westminster Choir College (1998). Outside of her work, her two great loves are reading and baseball.

The Reverend Dr. Nora Johnson, Priest Associate


Mother Nora was ordained to the Episcopal priesthood in January, 2013, after graduating with a Masters in Divinity from General Theological Seminary.  Before transferring to General, she studied at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. Nora is Professor of English at Swarthmore College, a position she has held throughout her theological studies and continues to hold while serving in ordained ministry.  She holds a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BA from the University of California at Los Angeles.  She is a scholar of English Renaissance drama. With her partner Leslie Delauter, Nora lives in Philadelphia and presides over a herd of cats and goldfish, and a little terrier named Tipper who is sometimes seen about the church grounds.

Nora has served as an assistant at Trinity Church, Swarthmore, and as a seminarian and lay associate at Church of the Crucifixion.  She is delighted to serve at St. Mark’s as Associate for Adult Education and Formation.

The Reverend Nicholas B. Phelps

Father Phelps, a priest of the Diocese of Pennsylvania, has been an Assistant Priest at Saint Mark's Church Philadelphia since 1999.

Before coming to Saint Mark's Church, Father Phelps served as Rector of Saint James Episcopal Church, Bristol, PA (1981-1998); Rector of Trinity Church, Buckingham, PA (1970-1980); Episcopal Chaplain, UCLA (1964-1970); Assistant Chaplain, UCLA (1962-1963); Vicar, Saint Andrews Church, Blackinton, MA (1961-1962) and Assistant Rector, Saint John's Church, Williamstown, MA (1959-1962).

Father Phelps attended Episcopal Theological School in Cambridge, MA receiving his Masters in Divinity in 1959 after having graduated from Williams College in Williamstown, MA in 1956.

 

 

The Reverend Marie Swayze

Mother Marie Swayze, a priest of the Diocese of Pennsylvania, Assisting Priest at Saint Mark's since 2006, served as Interim Rector at Saint Mark's from 1996-1997.

Before coming to Saint Mark’s as Assisting Priest (Retired from full-time parish ministry), Mother Swayze served as Interim Rector in three parishes in our Diocese and, served as Rector at Saint Peter’s Church, Phoenixville, where she established The Clinic (2002), a Non-Profit Family Medical Practice for persons who have no medical insurance. The Clinic has been helping almost 1,000 persons a month: www.theclinicpa.org

Mother Swayze is a graduate of Trinity College, Wash., D.C., M.S., West Chester University, and M.Div., Lutheran Theological Seminary Philadelphia, with one year of Anglican Studies at General Theological Seminary, New York.

 

 


The Reverend Joseph N. Wildsmith

Father Wildsmith, a priest of the Diocese of New Jersey, is an Assistant Priest at Saint Mark's Church. He participates in Caritas for Saint Mark's Church and performs mass for a local nursing home with other members of Saint Mark's.

Father Wildsmith graduated from the Philadelphia Divinity School and received his Masters in Divinity in 1968.

Matt Glandorf, Organist and Choirmaster

Matthew Glandorf has an active career as a conductor, composer, church musician, and educator. He was raised in Germany, where he received early instruction at the organ at the Bremen Cathedral with Wolfgang Baumgratz. At age sixteen he entered the Curtis Institute of Music as a student of John Weaver and Ford Lallerstedt. He pursued graduate studies with McNeil Robinson at the Manhattan School of Music.

In 2004 he was appointed as artistic director of the Choral Arts Society of Philadelphia, and in 2008 he became the artistic director of the Bach Festival of Philadelphia. He has served as director of music for many Philadelphia churches, including Old St. Joseph's, Old Pine Street Presbyterian, and Lutheran Church of the Holy Communion.

As an organist he is noted for his improvisation and has played recitals throughout the United States and in England and Germany, including Rochester Cathedral, Ulm Munster, the Cathedral of Bremen, the Wanamaker Grand Court organ, and the new organ in Verizon Hall. He has made several recordings as an organist and an accompanist.

Mr. Glandorf has served on the faculties of Swarthmore College and Westminster Choir College and joined the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music in 1995.

Don Hopkins, Ministry Resident

Donald Hopkins graduated from Temple University in 2012 with a degree in Philosophy and Political Science. He is currently the Ministry Resident Intern for Outreach at Saint Mark's focusing on developing and expanding the food cupboard, the soup bowl, and many as other projects as well as serving at mass and leading the daily office several days a week.
